Very interesting story on Steve Young, former BYU QB and 49ers star, in the Deseret News over the weekend. To summarize: Young is living in Palo Alto, where he is working at an investment company. He regularly travels to Utah, where most of his family now lives (having moved from CT). He is happily married to Barb and has three kids and appears active in his Palo Alto ward, where he is teaching the teachers. For all you fellow 49ers fans out there from the 1980s and early 1990s, I often see Bart Oates at the Manhattan temple, where he regularly volunteers. It seems the mind is turning toward football in August…
Geoff,
You are often in the Manhattan temple?
I am in NY almost every other week during the week, and occasionally on weekends (I went to Danithew’s ward a few weeks ago). I’ve probably been to the Manhattan temple about 10 times this year. My temple in Florida is the Orlando temple, but it’s a four-hour drive away, whereas the Manhattan temple is a 15-minute walk from my hotel. 🙂
Geoff, my parents work in the Manhattan temple every Friday evening.
Bryce, my wife and I went there a few weeks ago on a Friday night. I think we saw some Inouyes while we were there. Friday night temple nights are the best date nights ever!!! Next time I’m there I’ll be sure to say hi.
Guess this article indirectly answers the question about whether or not he has any interest in coaching BYU one day — it would seem that his interest in actively being involved in the game beyond his NFL commentator gig is pretty low.
[The pro-BYU football fan mafia frequently advocate forcing Steve Young or Ty Detmer to coach BYU by extending them a formal mission call.]
