T&S relay team race

M* needs five people to field a team in the T&S relay team race. I can run the longer legs, I’ve still got some speed left over from high school track.

Can I get four others? If you’d like to join, please comment here.

Check out this T&S post for the rules.

UPDATE: WE ONLY NEED THREE MORE RUNNERS. C’MON, YOU BLOGGERS, GET OFF YOUR DUFFS AND VOLUNTEER FOR THE M* RELAY TEAM! WE’RE GOING TO KICK SOME T&S POSTERIOR!

SECOND UPDATE: WE HAVE A TEAM. WE COULD USE ONE MORE ALTERNATE IF SOMEBODY ELSE WANTS TO PARTICIPATE.

  1. Commenting only so that you’ll know I saw this — you don’t want me on your team, I assure you. I was the kid for whom the “designated runner” kickball/softball rule was created at my elementary school, because I could kick and/or hit the ball into the neighborhood beyond our playground, but someone else could run to the fence, climb over it, hunt down the ball, find it, figure out how to get back over the fence while holding the ball, and run back to our area of the playground before I got back to “home.” When I was in Sea Cadets doing PT runs, we found out that when I was walking, I went faster than when I was running. However, I will cheer on the runners from Ohio. ^_^

  2. I’m willing and interested in participating.

In my current condition I can do up to 5k, but slowly.

  3. Well, we’ve got four people now. I’d like to get two or three more so we have five plus a couple alternates. With five people, each of us has to do two legs. Once we have seven or eight people, I’ll suggest which legs we should do, and then we’ve got to get in shape, people!

  4. I will be doing my running on a treadmill in my company’s fitness center. Should make for a good workout. Anyone else care to join?

  5. Alright, IVAN! I knew I could get you away from your dissertation. I promise, no politics while we’re running.

  6. OK, it looks like we have a team, people. Here are the rules:

At some point, Kaimi will indicate when we are to run. Sept. 28-29 looks good to me. Kaimi only wants five-person teams. We have five plus one alternate (mmiles). We could use another alternate just in case.

On September 28-29, you run two legs. I will assign the legs below. You don’t have to run in order. Just run as fast as you can during those days anytime you are able. You may want to run on separate days (these are Friday and Saturday — good, no Sabbath day running). Then, send me your times (geoff@millennialstar.org). I will then add them up and send into Kaimi.

    1. 4.5 mi — Ivan Wolfe.
    2. 2 mi — Edje
    3. 3 mi — Brian D.
    4. 1.5 mi — Keri
    5. 2.5 mi — Brian D.
    6. 1.5 mi — Edje
    7. 3.5 mi — Geoff B
    8. 0.7 mi — Keri
    9. 2 mi — Ivan Wolfe
    10. 5 mi — Geoff B

    (Total: 26.2 mi)

First alternate: Mmiles, we are counting on you to participate if somebody else drops out for some reason. We’ll let you know by Sept. 28 if somebody has to drop out.

Is everybody OK with this? Questions?

  7. Mmiles, I guess so. The reason to have an alternate is if somebody gets sick or injured or has to travel or whatever and can’t do their legs. Then, we would rely on you to do the missing legs. Worst case, I can do them. I run 4-8 miles every day (except Sunday), so we should be OK.
