Less Friend Time Equals More Happiness at Home!

A wise friend of mine sent me this in an email.

“It is amazing how staying away from friends makes all the difference with children.  WE had a week like that last week, and now the children are getting along much better.  Wow, life is ever so interesting.”

I think it speaks for itself, but it is a great reminder that we often go looking for fulfilment and pleasure outside of our families, when the real fulfillment, joy and pleasure was meant to happen within our families, at home.  If we get enough time alone, as a family, we become closer Continue reading →

LDS Families – Making Home an MTC

For years now our family has had one focus;to be the kind of family who lives each day with spiritual purpose.  We deliberately do all kinds of things like have daily devotionals and family council meetings, weekly PPIs.  A family mission statement isn’t  just a good idea to us, it is something we use to keep our family focused on progressing as a group toward the missions God has prepared for each of us.  We talk about everything and every feeling.  If we feel the Spirit leave our home every member of the family has been taught to bring it to the family’s attention and to pray and sing a song to invite it back into the home. 

If we are driving to the store and children start to argue, we stop, discuss, pray and sing until we feel the Spirit so that we can go out into the world carrying a feeling that will be different, warm, and inviting.  This is the way we live to keep the Spirit and to stay focused on our responsibility to spread goodness and light to the world.

Order at Home

      One of my passions is astronomy.  When I go out in my backyard and look through my telescope at my friends, the planets and stars, I feel so close to God.  Not because heaven is in space, but because it is so obvious there is organization in all things.  He is a God of order; with everything in it’s perfect place.  Everything has a purpose; a mission.  Since He is order in all we see it only makes sense that people should live by order too.  
     Just like laws and principles govern the skies and the earth, there are laws meant to govern us as well.  That is why we have chosen to apply governing rules to our home too.  We feel like there is no better example of how to run a home than the way God runs our world; the current home for His family.
