I was originally planning a staycation, but my mother-in-law works for a company that owns property in Telluride, Colorado. We were able to reserve a home for one week at a discounted price. My wife’s mother and father, uncle and some family friends will be joining us for the week to help keep expenses down. It’s the perfect way to have a good vacation during a recession.
We’re going to Paris. Our first vacation since our honeymoon (we had a honeymoon baby, and thus were not able to really go anywhere since).
Ok, Dan wins the “best summer vacation” prize. At least until someone tells me they are staying at a beach house on a private island in the Carribean. 🙂
Enjoy your vacation, Dan!!
Be sure to take lots of pictures to share with the rest of us stuck in North America for the summer.
The Geoff B family will stay home most of the summer. It’s tough out there, and vacations cost $$$. Time to cut back.
The good news is that home is in Colorado, and there is hiking, biking, horseback riding, camping, swimming and many other activities all within a half-hour of the house. So we won’t be suffering too much.
I just got back from a 5-day trip to Maine (it was fabulous!). I got a cheap plane ticket and stayed with a cousin who played tour guide so I didn’t even have to rent a car, so it was a very inexpensive (and fabulous!) trip. She lives in a great house right on the coast (ocean view, remote location). Have I mentioned it was fabulous? 🙂
In August I’ll head to Utah for a week for, basically, a family reunion. I’m looking forward to seeing my sister, who I haven’t seen in a couple years (we now live on opposite coasts). The plane ticket was average price, but I’ll stay with the parental units and probably drive their car 🙂
just keep an eye on my facebook for pics. We’re flying out July 24.
Road trip!
We’ll drive from WA to AZ in August and return about a week later. We’ll stay with my parents during that time. I’m hoping for a nice thunderstorm while we’re in the valley!
We are moving to Provo.
Sigh. I’ll be doing a staycation this year. If the weather is good, I’ll be canoeing on Saturday. We have some good trails and things to do in Indianapolis.
And of course, we have some good disc golf courses here, so I’ll survive.
Off to the U.K. in six days, a week in England followed by a week in Scotland. Visiting daughter and son-in-law in Edinburgh.
Photos on Facebook. Narrated slide show upon request.
I don’t know if a day playing tourist in New York with visiting friends counts as a “staycation” but I already had one terrific day in May like that.
Not sure I’ll be taking any time off this summer, but I live in Vermont so everyday is a vacation day. It’s sort of the Colorado of the east. 😀 Sadly, I still have to go to work Monday – Friday, but I get to hear about the fun stuff the wife and kids did, and we have all those weekends.
Hey All,
We just got back from an all-girl camping (cabin style); in the Appalachian Mountains of North Carolina. A good time was had by all.
Is moving here to Provo like a vacation?
We’re hoping to make it home to Canada this summer and *maybe* in late August or early September go to Disneyland.
Just got back last week fron 12 days in Iceland. It is an awesome place.
Clark,
Moving to Provo is sort of a vacation for us. It also means that we will not have the time and money for any other vacation (except for a few very brief camping outings.

Does two days in Nauvoo count?
@John Scherer
Yes, of course. That is where my wife and I spent the second half of our honeymoon. Great place to go on vacation!
