Discuss John 12:35-36
35 Then Jesus said unto them, Yet a little while is the light with you. Walk while ye have the light, lest darkness come upon you: for he that walketh in darkness knoweth not whither he goeth. 36 While ye have light, believe in the light, that ye may be the children of light….
John 12:35-36
I believe Northern Exposure to be the greatest TV series ever created so far. Chris Stevens, town philosopher, spiritualist, disc jockey, and artist creates a light sculpture to celebrate the Winter Solstice, which occurs around December 21st, when northern parts of the planet earth experience a 24 hour period without sunlight. Chris gives a short sermon on light. Chris says it best, so I won’t analyze his discourse. Think of Jesus as “Light” as Chris gives his interpretation of “light”. See here
Tonight all the Bensons celebrated the last night of Hanukkah at the Messianic Synagogue near our home. We received a wonderful sermon on Christ, who is the Light of the Old Testament. In John Chapter 12: 36, Christ asks us to be the Children of Light. As Latter-day Saints, we have the gospel, the truest light of Christ there is. Let us all show our Christ light to others thru glorifying our Redeemer. May we truly be the Children of Light.
Amen! ‘Northern Exposure’ is one of those TV shows that I never got a chance to watch much, but I’ve heard a lot of good things about it.
I think “Children of Light” is an especially good phrase.
I agree Geoff. Especially after last night gazing at a large table at the front of a small assembly hall ablaze with the nine candles each of a dozen or so menorahs. If we keep Christ in our hearts and strive to do what He wants us to do, in loving our neighbor and God; we will be the Children of Light.
BTW, NX is available on DVD. I have all but the last season. I have gotten Piano Man and Tex into the series.
I {heart}Chris in the Morning on NX. Super big fan here.
Well said! We don’t have enough time to just exist for the sake of mere existance. We have to show the Light of Christ in all we do. Life is a mission, not a pleasure cruise.
Joyce- I am right there with you. I love Chris too.
NIcholeen- What a darling quote, “Life is a mission, not a pleasure cruise”. Do you mind if I use it on my facebook page?
Merry CHristmas 🙂
I’d be honored if you used it on your facebook page. You should become my friend on facebook too. 🙂
Merry Christmas!
