Bloggersnacker Provo, August 12

Save the date. Because of the convergence of a few M* bloggers in Utah on August 12, some of us have discussed getting together in Utah County that night to get better acquainted. Then we realized how boring it would be to only get acquainted with the boring people who post here. Much better to get to know those who comment here, and those who post and comment elsewhere too.

So we’d like to publicly announce that everyone is invited to just meet at 8:00 in the big new periodicals reading room at the HBLL. We’ll have to whisper, but since when did bloggers have the need to be boisterous and noisy anyway? The entire affair will probably just devolve into everyone finding interesting things to read and separating quietly to carrels dispersed across the library anyway. But at least we’re burying our noses in books together!, instead of alone, like we usually do.

Okay, maybe we won’t do it at the library. In honesty, we haven’t figured out the ‘where’ of the whole thing. But it will be in or around Provo, Utah, it will be the night of August 12, 2005, and it will include at least a few nice people, some of whom blog here at M*. What else do you need? Mark it on your calendar, and stay tuned for further details. Also, if you’re planning on coming, let us know. And if you have thoughts about a good location, let us know. We’re currently favoring a public park somewhere in Provo, which I think would be a lot of fun. See you there!

  1. I agree with Andrea. I hope all of you lurkers out there will come, even if you never do begin to comment.

  2. borders has a nice cafe area that would be perfect for something like this. they even have an outdoor spot with tables, so that way if people wanted to be loud it would be no problem. plus, they are open late.

  3. FYI: The BCC permabloggers are happy to attend, but given our enormous popularity, we will have to insist on having our plane tickets reimbursed and our receiving free massages, as always. This may seem steep, but prior Bloggersnacker participants will tell you that these things are no fun until we show up.

  4. The Seattle Bloggersnacker wholly embraced at least one lurker. Just so you know.

Oh, and Lisa at FMH will be in Utah in august. Not sure if it includes the 12th or no, but you may want to let her know in case she doesn’t already.

  5. Sounds like fun. Not only that, I think I’ll still be playing the batchelor while my wife and kids are off driving around the Northwest, so it’ll help keep me out of trouble ;^)

  6. By the way, only AWESOME people can come. If you’re not AWESOME, stuff it.

  7. Even though I didn’t post comment #5, I wholeheartedly embrace it.

  8. Sorry, Steve E., Comment #8 was for you and your co-conspirators.

  9. Hmmmm…I’ll probably be in Provo on the 12th. I’d be nervous, but I might go. Keep us informed.

  10. Brian, as a veteran of one of these things, I can promise you this: They’re much more fun than you think, and you will not regret going.

  11. I hope you come Brian, it would be a pleasure to meet you. Maybe you would think me less evil after meeting me in person! 🙂

  12. I don’t think you’re evil, J. Max, just misunderstood. Now, your puppet, he’s evil! 🙂

By the way, is he going to come? 🙂

  13. Actually, I really did leave that comment at #5. Shame on me for saying otherwise. Why is it that I refuse to take responsibility for my own snarkiness. I’m just so silly!

  14. Brian,

Funny you should ask about my puppet. I was just thinking of proposing to the other M* bloggers that I bring my puppets and my stage and provide some entertainment for anyone who wants to bring their kids. Of course, an indoor venue would work best for me if I am to being doing puppetry.

While I don’t mind a the typical chat and snack format of the bloggersnackers I’ve been to in the past, I like a good party more, so here is a proposal: I’ll bring my puppets and stage. Anybody who wants to can bring an instrument: guitar, bass, hand-drums, horns, or whatever. We’ll make it a rockin’ evening of chit-chat, puppets, and some musical jammin’. I’ve done some puppet improv for kids with musicians before and it can be a real kick!

    Anybody interested?

I don’t think that Borders is a very good location for those of us who might bring our kids, and I’m not sure I am prepared to put on a puppet show for all of the Borders patrons anyway.

  15. I was sorry to miss the last Seattle Bloggersnacker (I was out of town at the MIL’s). Please invite me to the next one in Seattle!

  16. Yikes, sorry for our delinquency in finalizing this thing, dear readers. Look for an announcement sometime Monday, hopefully! And don’t get discouraged, this is happening, for sure, even though we’ve been slow on the trivial details (like where, what, and how). At least we have the when and who!
