I am not a big fan of hot weather. In fact, I spend a good deal of summertime wishing it were springtime or falltime. However, there is one thing that happens only in summer that makes the heat worth it to me: I love to see children sitting out on street corners, under umbrellas conscripted to parasol service and makeshift signs, selling lemonade, soda, cookies, or whatever.

Anti-Religous Science
Over at the Huffington Post Blog, Sam Harris, author of the best selling book The End of Faith: Religion, Terror, and the Future of Reason, has posted his reaction to President Bush’s comments about teaching Intelligent Design. Harris’ post received gushing approval from well-known, pro-evolution author Richard Dawkins.
In the church we often repeat the aphorism that there is no real conflict between Science and Religion.

On being Offended by Ideals and Generalizations
Sometimes it seems the only thing that is considered a “sin†in today’s culture is advocating an ideal or making a generalization. And more conservative bloggers, such as myself, tend to be the most common offenders in this regard. It always puzzles me when a statement of an ideal or a generalization provokes people into becoming offended, especially among members of the Church.
