The Church of Casual Saints

In the 25th chapter of Matthew is the parable of the ten virgins–five wise and five foolish. When reading the parable, substitute the word ‘casual’ in place of the word ‘foolish.’

Now, it is time for some personal introspection. Are there areas of the gospel where you have become casual? Do you recognize aspects of the gospel where your fellow saints have become casual? Is it in our dress, temple attendance, listening to our leaders, scripture study, prayers, etc.?

Order at Home

One of my passions is astronomy.  When I go out in my backyard and look through my telescope at my friends, the planets and stars, I feel so close to God.  Not because heaven is in space, but because it is so obvious there is organization in all things.  He is a God of order; with everything in it’s perfect place.  Everything has a purpose; a mission.  Since He is order in all we see it only makes sense that people should live by order too.
Just like laws and principles govern the skies and the earth, there are laws meant to govern us as well.  That is why we have chosen to apply governing rules to our home too.  We feel like there is no better example of how to run a home than the way God runs our world; the current home for His family.
Our family has a set structure.  We have certain meetings each week to strengthen the family relationships and keep the home in order.  The meetings we have are Continue reading

Climategate: it’s worse than you ever imagined

Last week the Climate Research Unit (CRU) at the University of East Anglia in the UK confirmed that its computer had been hacked.  It has also confirmed that thousands of e-mails and other information have been taken public.

The CRU is one of the leading research units behind the theory that increased CO2 is causing global warming (this theory is called anthropogenic global warming or AGW).  The released e-mails are extremely damaging to the scientists involved, and, depending on how this all plays out, this incident could end up being the end of the global warming movement as we know it.  Some of the leading climate scientists are likely to have their reputations destroyed and some of them could end up in jail.  Leading environmentalists, sympathetic to the AGW theory, are warning that Phil Jones, the director of the CRU, should resign and that environmentalists need to be aware how serious this scandal is.
