I love the moniker “fit for polite company.” 🙂
So far I’m hating it. Full of liberal self-importance and not a religious voice to be found.
I take exception to that, Jettboy. Off the top of my head, I can think of four writers who are religious, including myself.
I thought the articles by matt b and max mueller were pretty good. Jettboy, what specific problems do you have with the site?
Pretty MEGO.
First off, there is plenty of talk on Religion and Politics so this site isn’t unique. I am a getreligion.org person myself who believes that journalists are doing a poor job of understanding, if not covering, religion. Then again, I think journalists are doing a poor job of reporting.
Then there is the agrigate feel of the site. Maybe that is the purpose, but much of these could be found with a simple search in google news. They are only starting out I suppose, but nothing feels fresh. Since I loath NYT, Washington Post, Boston Globe and most mainstream news then I don’t see any new insights beyond the usual suspects. There is one Deseret News post, but it would be nice to at least search out a few conservative prints and authors – like The Christian Post or something. Heck, I’ll even write aticles if allowed and using a real name if that is what it takes to get some balance.
As a simple example of what I find wrong with the site, there is an article that talks about John Stewart as a religion teacher. Seriously? The man loaths religion and that is why he mocks regardless of the argument otherwise with the post. No counter argument other than maybe responses in the comment sections. There just isn’t enough conservative alternative voices. Its a sounding board for those who you can hear all over the place already.
